Victor 'Vic' Caponigro

May 22, 1948 – June 18, 2022

Our classmate Victor Caponigro died on June 18, 2022.  Victor died at his home in Florham Park, NJ of causes unknown to us.  He left behind his wife of 50 years, Vicky (Kidd) Caponigro, his daughter Dana Hanson, his son Anthony Caponigro, and two grandchildren, Gabriella and Michael Caponigro.  Vic was known as an animal lover, and his obituary included among his survivors “his faithful companion, his cat, Sammy.”

Following his graduation from MHS, Victor served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.  He finished his basic and individual combat training in late 1968 and early 1969 at Parris Island, South Carolina.  Upon completion of his marine service in Vietnam, Vic returned to New Jersey, worked in the construction industry, and married Vicky in November 1972.  At  the time of their wedding, Victor worked primarily as a carpenter.  Later on, in the mid-1980’s, he had a ceramic, marble, and granite tiling business.

Victor was known by his family and friends to be a good listener, great friend, and entertaining storyteller.  He was remembered for sharing stories “with a sparkle in his eye” that “would make you laugh, but also make you think.”

He was pre-deceased by his father Antonio Caponigro, his mother Kathleen (Cox) Caponigro, his sister Toni-Susan Caponigro, his nephew Nicholas Barritta, and his brother-in-law Anthony “Push” Barritta.

In his obituary, his family requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made in his honor to St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare or to the Vietnam Veterans of America.
