Carol Ellen Szego (Baron)

Carol Ellen Szego (Baron)

March 25, 1948 - June 29, 1990

Carol died on June 29, 1990, in Seattle, WA.   Beth Goodman Feldman sent this information from Carol’s husband, Bill Baron (MHS Class of 1965):  "She started at Cedar Crest College and finished her degree (English) at Cal State LA. We were married on December 28, 1969, and she joined me in Pasadena; I was at Caltech. In 1971, we moved up to Palo Alto (for my law school). She worked for a small company that designed programs to train drug counselors. We moved to Seattle when I graduated, and she found work with King County in the same field. After a short time, she was hired by the Seattle School District to work in its administration, as a facilities manager. Until her retirement, she worked on building schools, closing schools, and maintaining schools.  (She looked great in a hard hat!)

While working full time, she completed a Masters in Public Administration at the University of Washington. We traveled quite a bit in those years, including two self-guided bike tours to England, Holland, and France. We enjoyed Seattle's theater and music offerings, and she enjoyed her friends, reading, and knitting. She stayed close to her parents and her brother, and we saw them often.  Her diagnosis of leukemia in 1985 didn't stop her; we traveled to England, France, and Italy, and had a memorable winter trip to Russia, accompanying a chamber music group. She faced her illness with dignity and courage and chose to undergo a difficult and risky bone marrow transplant in hopes of a cure. She died on June 29, 1990, due to complications of the transplant."
