Cynthia Joan Lax (Ardell)

April 16, 1948 - January 6, 2010

      Cindy died on January 6, 2010, at Wayside (MA) Hospice.  She was 61.  Born in Newark, NJ, she grew up in Millburn Township.  She lived in North Easton, MA, before moving to Concord, MA. She graduated from Boston University, Harvard Graduate School of Education and Northeastern Law School.  Cindy produced educational media for Harcourt Brace Jovanovich in New York and later practiced as a title and real estate attorney in the greater Boston, MA, area. She became the administrator of the Boston Institute of Intercultural Communication, a Japanese school in Lincoln, MA, where Japanese and other foreign students came to study English. She was an independent consultant for Educators for Social Responsibility in Cambridge and for Educational Development Center in Newton, MA.  She was also a former member of the Massachusetts Bar Association.

      In 2003, she began a show called, "Chicken Soup Cabaret," singing classic songs and accompanying herself on keyboard at independent- and assisted-living homes, primarily in the Boston area. She also sang in New York, New Jersey, Texas, Florida and Washington, D.C.  She was a featured regional performer at the 2007 American Association of Retired Persons convention in Boston.  Her husband, Philip, and two brothers, Stephen and David, survived her.
