In Memory

Leigh Savage

October 13, 1946 – March 2, 2023

Leigh Kent Savage died on March 2, 2023 in Jupiter, Florida following a brief hospitalization and hospice care.  Jupiter had been his home for many years and a place where he made many lasting friendships.  He sometimes met those friends at a place called Ralph’s Stand Up Bar (a Jupiter gathering place since 1948) and would surprise them by wearing funny costumes appropriate for whatever event they all might be celebrating.

One of identical twins, Leigh was born on October 13, 1946 in Boston, Massachusetts.  The family moved to New Jersey, and following his graduation from MHS, Leigh attended Champlain Junior College in Burlington, Vermont from which he graduated in 1968 with a degree in management.   He also served in the U.S. Army for three years during the Viet Nam war and, as Army Specialist Four, was posted for a period near Qui Nhon, Vietnam assigned to the 160th Heavy Equipment Maintenance Company.  After discharge from the service, Leigh completed his college education with a BA from Ohio Northern University in 1974.

Leigh's 1977 first marriage ended in divorce.  He’d been living and working in New Jersey then, but at the urging of his twin brother Mark, our other ‘Savage’ classmate, Leigh moved to Florida near Mark and his wife Cathy and their parents.  It was there that he met Judy Carol Henson, and they were married in November 1989.  Her death in 2012 was a great loss for him.  Leigh spent twenty-one of his Florida years working for the VA Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Florida and fifteen years doing Tax preparation with H&R Block.  He, along with his wife Judy, was very active for many years in the Jupiter Lighthouse Eagles, a lodge of the Grande Aerie Fraternal Order of Eagles, a social and charitable organization.

Leigh is survived by his brother Mark and Mark’s wife Cathy.

Mark let us know that a celebration of Leigh’s life would take place at Ralph’s Stand Up Bar, 113 Center St, Jupiter, on April 16, 2023, from 3pm to 5pm.   In lieu of flowers, donations can be made “In Memory of Leigh Savage” to his favorite charity, the Busch Wildlife Sanctuary (https://www.buschwildlife.org/tributegifts).
