In Memory

Barbara Lynn Goldsmith (Hyman)

July 28, 1948 - November 27, 2016

Barbi died on November 27, 2016, in Baltimore, MD, following complications from what originally was a slight heart attack.  She had recently moved into the same condominium complex in Baltimore where John Cantlin lives.  John said she was a lovely person and that they got to know each other before realizing that they both had been members of the MHS Class of 1966.

We know from newspaper reports and Facebook posts that Barbi had served as Educational Coordinator for CHANA: Counseling, Helpline & Aid Network for Abused Women.  CHANA is the Jewish response to domestic violence, and Barbi spoke often on the subject of domestic abuse, teen dating violence, and elder abuse.  She also had been Principal of the Hebrew School at Baltimore Hebrew and was an inspiration and wonderful teacher and friend to very many people.   It was an odd and perhaps fitting irony that Barbi died shortly before “Giving Tuesday,” in that she clearly had given much of herself to others and had touched numerous lives in a profound way.

Her husband, Louis E. Hyman; three children, Amy, Jonathan, and David; and four grandchildren, survived her.

What a lovely picture of Barbie--one can really imagine the warmth of her words and the audience smiling back at her.  I am so sorry to hear of her unexpected passing and send my sympathy to all her family.  May all that was good in her live on in others.
